Before, during, and after the drill
Before the drill
- Review the controlling standard and skill sheets.
- Confirm the site, apparatus, staffing, equipment, water supply, weather, and visibility.
- Identify the lead instructor, safety officer, radio channel, accountability process, and emergency plan.
During the drill
- Complete accountability and the safety briefing.
- Explain the objective, assignments, standard, and evaluation endpoint.
- Require closed-loop communications and allow any member to call stop work.
After the drill
- Conduct a short after-action review.
- Record attendance, results, deficiencies, and required follow-up.
- Inspect and restore equipment to service.
